It's difficult for Australia to set fresh records.

The greatest achievements have been successfully scaled.

We're talking about the unit that has secured seven Cricket World Cups, plus six more T20 titles, and previously enjoyed over three years without defeat in 50-over cricket.

The alternative records, those for the achievement hunters, are all that remain for a team that has accomplished all there is.

The fact it required as late as Sunday's victory by three wickets over India for them to achieve their initial ODI chase over 300, reclaiming their record for the highest in the female 50-over format, is, in truth, a tribute to the bowlers that have represented Australia over the past 50 years.

It's challenging for their batsmen to hold a record if not provided the possibility.

Ultimately, the result of Australia giving up 330 runs was skipper Alyssa Healy getting a chance to produce her newest gem.

Initially recognized as the 19-year-old niece of famous ex Aussie wicketkeeper Ian, she debuted in 2010 after her nation didn't secure either of the 20 or 50-over World Cups conducted earlier and has seen it all through 15 trophy-laden years since.

A T20 World Cup win arrived three months after her first appearance and seven global championships have resulted from 10 attempts across formats.

That loss "drove us to reconsider our benchmarks," Healy said this week.

At the next 50-over World Cup in New Zealand, Healy made 170 against England in the championship match and was declared player of the series. She guaranteed her country would not come up short.

If this recent magnificent innings exceeded that prior achievement can be debated.

Certain people claim the argument supporting final game tension. Some might respond with the challenge that comes when confronting a historic chase and an enthusiastic Indian fanbase of 20,000.

What's clear is this hundred was considerably tougher to anticipate.

The New Zealand onslaught in 2022 occurred when she led the batting statistics, but this performance followed six innings in India over the past few weeks in which she had been unable to reach 30.

"If you've observed me in the nets, it was a challenging time because it seemed I lacked timing whatsoever," commented Healy.

"Yet the moment you enter the playing area, your competitive nature take over and you just lock into the match."

Healy's competitive nature has continuously been her key asset - and an irreplaceable characteristic in taking over from famous previous leader Meg Lanning.

She was challenged by India's emerging talent Kranti Gaud in the previous month's ODI series, dismissed by the 22-year-old seamer in every game, but on this occasion it simply offered Healy's spark.

A single came off the opening delivery and from there the right-hander was on her way.

"An opportunity to take the field and lock in a contest with her and just have a bit of fun in that regard, kind of motivated me," stated Healy.

She reached fifty in 35 pitches - her swiftest at a World Cup - and her ton in 84 as she flogged anything short, hitting 21 fours and three big hits.

When she was removed the team required another 66 at one run per ball - an achievable target now needing a comfortable finish.

"To chase 330 is unfamiliar ground so I am glad we have the belief to achieve that now," stated Healy further.

"Ideally we won't need to do it again but, if we do, we believe we can do it."

That comment will be the final thing rival teams at this World Cup need to hear.

In recent days a belief they will win from any position has become more firm - this triumph succeeding success over Pakistan by 107 runs despite sitting at 76-7 at a certain moment.

Next Australia play Bangladesh before a match against traditional opponents England in Indore in a week and a half, by which point a semi-final berth may well be secure.

It was at that stage they were eliminated from the prior year's T20 World Cup in an unexpected loss by South Africa - a match Healy missed because of damaged tissue in her foot as she led her country for the inaugural occasion at a major tournament.

Such is her determination, she afterwards commented she wished she had played despite the injury.

However although she subsequently acknowledged those physical issues have delayed plans to retire, this championship is expected to be her final tournament as skipper in ODI cricket and she is still to achieve an international tournament as captain.
